Bull
Notes -
Monroe, LA
Ark-La-Miss Stampede
Days Rodeo
February 2001
Herd:
Auger - Harper
Notes: I grew
up in West Monroe and watched Don Gay, Denny Flynn, Charles Sampson, and
other greats ride at this rodeo. It used to be a four perf rodeo. By 1998
and 1999 attendance had fallen off, and in 2000 they dropped it and replaced
it with a one perf PBR Touring Pro. This year, it's back to three perfs,
good crowd, drew the top guys, and added a first class hospitality room
for the contestants. A step in the right direction.
Monroe is the closest
city to where the Augers live, and so I suspect they would like to bring
this rodeo back. They did a good job with it this year, and in years to
come... look for this rodeo to increase the added money. West Monroe is
building a brand new indoor facility, and I would be surprised if they
didn't move this rodeo across the river and make it a bigger one. More
rodeo fans on the west side of the river.
Lots of bulls got
rode here - at least on Friday and Saturday night. Plenty of good bull
riders.
One of these days,
I'm going to make it by somebody else's rodeo and have a look at some
different bulls.

2 Friday Night-------------
Bulls
- Jockeys (delivery)
29
Orange Crush - Buskin Wilson (L)
YOWZA... Buskin took him to the reverse and then got sailed. Managed to
avoid getting crushed. Orange showed no signs of slowing down. I wonder
if this bull is good on good dirt... I've seen him stop twice on bad ground
indoors. Bucked hard here... but won't on TV.
X66
Dez - Rene Tate (L)
Not-so-hot. A user.
116
Yellow Dog - Chris Coody (R)
Yellow Dog = What-a-Dog.... 71 pts
1
Friday Night Live - Adam Wood (R)
Adam rode this big brindle easy. Bull was just good - turned back to the
left I think. Stayed hooked - 80 pts. Nothing wrong with that... good
one to have.
74
Challenger - Flint Mask (L)
A big roan muley that does about the same deal everytime they turn him
out, sometimes with a little more spunk than others. He bucked as good
as ever here and Flint was 87 to win the rodeo. Sometimes the judges don't
like this bull as well. He's a little droppy, and will turn back- jump
out of it. Notches up a lot of quick buck-offs because he gets cocked
in the chute and really leaves there. It's hard to get a fair shot at
him. They always buck him left and he's harder on right handed guys.
387
The Jackal - Lamar Duren (L)
Pretty hard to twist + not many points = not the one you would want to
have. One of those bulls that hangs around the let out gate the whole
eight.
98
Bubba - Michael Riggs (L)
Boy is this a cool bull... about three and to the left, stayed hooked,
kicked good the whole way... real catty. The judges thought he was a little
too nice. 79 points. Add a couple of big horns and you'd be 5 more at
least. Worth going to get on. Nice ride.
532
Raspberry Wine
- Matthew Weber (R)
Plenty of juice + zero kick = Copenhagen Butt Dragger. Looked VERY hard
to ride, and this guy really tried hard.
-1
Showtime
- Wayne White (R)
Little bull had a lot of kick. Wayne had to slap him, and wasn't too happy
about it. Looked like a good one to have... turned back both ways. Don't
know what the judges thought of him.
73
Rampage II
- Will Hines (L)
73 BUCKED about as good as he did in Baton Rouge... which was pretty good.
Got Will at the corner to the right. Will probably would have been 104
points if he would have rode him - considering Flint was 87 on 74.
Perf
3 Saturday Night----------------
41
Bandelero - Travis Askew (L?)
Geez, this bull has gotten worse every time I've seen him. He really dragged
here and I'm pretty sure Travis got a re-ride on him.
139
Marantha -
Ethan Russell (R)
Bucked harder here than he did at Baton
Rouge. Got Ethan pretty quick.
4W
Firecracker - Beau Hill (L)
Yuck-O + Delivery switcheroo = Just as Yuck-O. Bull bucks hard, but is
just not quite enough when they ride the better ones. One to have at a
weak rodeo. 75 here
08
Candy Man - Jackie Patton (R)
Was a little better here than at Baton Rouge. Came around to the left.
A great draw in this herd.
11
Jigger
- Bryan Richardson (L)
I figured this to be a good matchup. This guy rides good, and this little
red bull usually bucks pretty hard. The Jigger turned back hard and launched
Mr. Richardson this time... he might not do it twice in a row. He would
have been some points.
89
Valline
- Blu Bryant (L)
Bull looks like X66 Dez. He circled around and was pretty average here.
Blu rode him, but I can't remember the score.
J783
Red Baron - Jeremi Kirkland (L)
I go around telling people this is a pretty good bull to have, but he
wasn't here. He turned back and spun, but got real draggy. No kick.
N56
Helicopter - Josh O'Byrne(R)
Little red muley that has helped a lot of guys win a lot of money. He
came over from Jason Brumley Land with his "N" branded buddy
(N9 Turbo) several years ago. He had a real good day here, and so did
Josh. Didn't look like the easiest of the 80 pointers they called out.
Josh worked for it. Bull stopped just after the whistle - probably docked
him a point or two, though they shouldn't have. Never hurts to have a
strong finish.
196
Batman - Jay Henderson (R)
Fat black muley that got it in the gate both ways. Great bull to draw,
and they called out an 80.. I should have looked at the sheets... I didn't
pay enough attention to the scores. I seem to remember seeing Jay buck
off one time, but it was a long time ago...
112
Becachah - Myron Duarte (L)
A yanker. Big old red bull with a star in his face. Yanked on Myron, but
he hung tough... 81 (I think)
009
Tarzan - Ash Potter (R)
Rangy Brahmer that bucked just like a rangy brahmer, Not too hot. Kinda
resembled a Water Buffalo.
20
Resistol Hats - Clint Solomon (L)
Black Horned bull that was a Hunk-O-Junk. Scattered off down the front
of the bucking chutes. Made a pretty waspy corner at the far fence, and
Clint got to play Bull Rider for about one jump. 72 pts. This guy apparently
has his own fan club that follows him around.
77
Soul Train - Bryant Pierce (L)
To give you an idea where Bryant is from... I live so far south in Louisiana
that people go crabbing NORTH of my house. This dude lives 40 miles south
of me. This big brindle bull got into the wall... they bucked him too
far up in the corner, and he wanted to go right. Ended up stopping. Had
Judge Dewitt Forrest in a bad predicament for a few tense moments. Bryant
got a RR.
100
Snowman - Bryant Pierce RR (R)
Swamp Boy strikes again. Little Charolais turned back and stayed, but
weak. Only 67 pts.
217
Justin Boots - Cody Hancock (R)
Red bull with a white face that bucked like a pretty fair bronc horse.
Straight down the pen... He got some air, but didn't kick every jump,
so it would have been tough to win the bronc riding on him. Skoal's Crow
Hopper. He actually would have been pretty salty if have if only he would
have SPUN. No problem for the champ.
