MGM Winter Tour Finale News
Field Reports from the Fearless Leader

MGM first Performance Report

Bulls were decent. Guys were riding pretty sorry. Ground hard enough that bull's feet made sparks (an exaggeration ). Crowd--light and dead.
Take into account I'm in a bad mood. Thought I picked up tomorrow night's draw but didn't. Its on the prorodeo site.

Cliff Overstreet and Tom Miller judging.

Vince Stanton on 221 Dark Town Harper and Morgan. 87 22-22. Good bull. Tan. One round to the right then back to the left which was into his hand. Tried to spur a little and almost fell off. Made a good bull ride.
If this bull has been unridden at the PBRs then things must be pretty sorry over there.

Jason Legler on P57 Wanna Dance Diamond G. 85 21-21. Red bull stepped out and turned back into his hand (left). A little flat but grandma could stay on this one going into her hand.

Justin Andrade on 608 Flip Flop Beutler & Son. 83 21-21. Turned back in a tight circle to the left. Bucked pretty good but only about 25% as good as Bennie said he had been.

Luke Kelley on X4 Explosive Binion Cervi. 20 23+ 7.42. Brahmer was coming at Tom.... a little waspy but not spinning. Loosened Luke up a couple time but he had him gathered back up then rolled off.

Josh O'Byrne on 99 Sun Coast Beutler and Son. 21- 21 7.34. Bull turned back to the right---away from his hand. Never had a real good deat and it looked like he just tried to tough it out with what he had.

Robbie Russell on M11 Turn the Page Harper and Morgan. 22+? ? ?. Right hand D by the catch pen. Two jumped him. Big Brown Swiss. Went to the right. Looked like he wanted to buck.

Jeremi Kirkland on 809 Wide Side Kish. 21 ? 3.45. Little muley brindle. To the right. Good bull.

Johnny Chavez on M16 Smokeless Smoke. 24? 24? 2.27. Big black. Went to the right--in the gate--away from his hand. No contest. Probably the buckiest bull out but didn't get to see much of him.

Terry Don West on 50 McCarty Rose Diamond G. 22-22 4.11. Big yellow. Judges liked him a point better than I did. Little sluggish for me. TD moved in too far then came out and just kept going. Riding with a broken ankle and taking injections in it.

Cody Hancock on 92 Moonshine Beutler and Son. 23-23 5.34. Kiss my butt a 23? He was a slow 20+. Cody moved over in there and the bull just never picked him up.

Bryan Richardson on 727 Smokin Gun of Kish's. 24-23 7.18. Wolf Man lookalike. Only exciting thing in the entire rodeo. Too the right... away from his hand.... 90 MPH and fading. This kid made some major Denny Flynn backdoor moves. Impressive effort. My best bull but only because they never got M16 started.

Jessie Bail on 826 Splinter of Kishs. 22+ ? 2.81. Short but fat Black White face. Stumbled then turned back away from Jessie's hand. Looked like he was going to "gin it".

MGM Second Perf Report
More people. Guys rode better.

Judges: Miller & Overstreet

Cody Hancock on 714 Slammer of Burns. 91 22-23. Spotted bull went into Cody's hand (right). I'da 22-22 ed it for a total of 88. Cliff felt like this bull was harder to ride than 788 because he didn't kick much but then Cliff's parents musta loved playing basketball so much that they dribbled him to kindergarden every day. Scrambled his brain. TJ Korkow flanking.

Josh O'Byrne on 788 Classical T of Burns. 90 22-22. To get my spread I'da 23-23'ed it. Total of 92. Dark colored MR T descendent went to the right--away from Josh's hand. Obvious first place but a couple guys on the back of the churtes said Josh slapped him. I never saw it. TJ Korkow flanking.

Jason Legler on 45 Tombstone of Westerns. 88 22-22. Old bull had a good day. To the right--away from his hand. A little heavy and sluggish which made him more difficult. Jason rode him perfectly. At a rodeo you coulda marked the bull a 21- but in this pen Id'a marked it a 21 point ride on a 19 point bull. An 80.

Vince Stanton on 102 MR. Biscuits of Honeycutts. 87 22-22. A fat muley F1... started really good to right --away from Vince's hand... made two rounds and went back along the chutes. Here Ida made it a 20 ride on an 18 bull. 76.

Robbie Russell on 264 Broken Bone of Westerns. ? ? 2.32. A light colored spot... a fatso. Had a good fake and Robbie bit.... the dust.

Jeremi Kirkland on 666 Shiver N Shake of Keslers. ? 22 3.0. Two big jumps then to the right--away from his hand. Bull has so much forward movement that he's tough away from a guy's mit.

Bryan Richardson on 840 Evidence of Keslers. 23+ 23? 2.36. Young but good sized yellow. Really kicked and went away from Bryan's hand (to the left). He's mean too.

Luke Kelley on 311 Jack Daniels of Sutton. 20+ 21 7.83. Never spun but bucked pretty hard. Thick made yellow with a white face. Luke made two long 7 second efforts here. Shouldn't've bucked off either. Efforts there but has a technical problem.

Johnny Chavez on K7 Que Ball of Honeycutts. 22+ 22+ 3.61. Huge whale. Yellowish. Couple of heavy lumberin jumps then to the right. John never made the corner. The said Andrade was 90 on this bull at Lakeside a few days ago so he must be good if you get around there.

Jessie Bail on 233 Wild Thing of Rosser's. ? 24? 2.21. The testiest bull I saw out tonight. Fire plug black does some frunky front foot walkin around a tight corner. Not many are going to get by him.

Justin Andrade on 414 Lil Yellow Whale. 23-21 7.65. Really kicks high. Went a ways and then to the left--away from his hand. Lots of dust comes up off his back. Maybe a 21+.

Terry Don West on A41 of Rosser's. Terry VI'ed. On crutches with a busted ankle.

--------------------------------------

I talked to the judges after the perf. Usually I leave them alone but I like both these guys. Solid character and integrity. Numbers are good. Always try. My kind of judges. I thought they were worth the trouble.

Two different problems were in evidence here. Problems that a lot of judge's have.

TOM....

I noticed last night when they rode only three bulls he had two guys with the exact same bull and ride scores. That bothered me but I didn't say anything. Word on the street has it that I'm down on the judging program so I kept my mouth shut. Plus I like these two guys. If I say something to them it's because I care about them. And for the record I AM down on the program but not the judges themselves.

Tonight they ride four and Thomas has two 45's --23 rides on 22 bulls and two 44's--22 rides on 22 bulls. All four bulls the same. My point to him was that as a judge it is his job to decide which is better--to place them. He needs to think how many points guys need to be in order to win what they are supposed to. This tie deal sucks. That is not judging.

CLIFF (Puff Daddy)

Actually what I was talking to Tom about--Cliff does. He just thinks about how many points a guy need to be to win what he is supposed to. However, besides being wrong on Josh and Cody's bulls, I asked him why he marked all four bulls that got ridden--22. A bull rider looks at the posted sheets and has to think that Cliff has no clue. Tom also had four 22's but he is known more a a bronc guy even though I think he won the BR world in college. They will let Tom slide but they expect Cliff to know better. He may be our best bull judge day in and day out.

There were obvious differences in the four bulls and they should've been reflected on the judge's sheets.

-------------------------------------------

TOMORROW NIGHT:
Top 8 Semi Finals: If no one rides-- the top 4 move into the finals.

Vince Stanton on R410 T-Bug Diamond G. Rankest bull at the 2001 MGM. Big bucky sucker.

Jason Legler on 301 Cash Growney. The Big Spot. Think he was 3rd for the bull of the year in 2001. He's the one Jason wanted.

Cody Hancock on 10 Freckles of Nelsons (Salt River). The best bull I saw on that network PBR telecast. Someone said Cody nearly rode him at Fort Worth.

Josh O'Bryne on 26 Juice Monkey of Salt Rivers. Been oustanding at the PBRs but Josh had him here a couple of years ago and he just hopped and skipped. If I'da known that 115 Slingshot was in Skip Beelers herd I'da brought him instead of Juice Monkey--when 780 Diamonds Ghost came up crippled.

Justin Andrade on A18 Alligator of Salt Rivers. This could be the round. Really souped up spinner. Always really good but can be outstanding.

Jesse Bail on 238 Lightning Strike of Westerns. Legitimate bull of the year candidate. Really big but rides good if you can get him started.

Bryan Richardson on 672 Prime Time of Beelers (Salt River). Voted best bull at the 2001 NFR. Guess he has spit the bit at a PBR not too long ago but for three seconds he is in a class all by himself. Tarpon style leaps.

Jeremi Kirkland on CL Clayton's Pet of Nelsons (Salt River). Well known bull. Not many out there as good as him. Can go quite aways before he turns back.

Rerides:

M16 Smoke of Harpers
M11 Turn the Page of Harpers
221 Dark town of Harpers

-----------------------------------

Top 4 Finals:

-75 MR. USA Diamond G (Famous Amos--NFR record holder)

716 Cash Flow of Kish's (just good)

F7 Freak on a Leash of Nelson's (Juiciest)

610 High Voltage of Beutler and Son's. (The Weakest Link)

RR's:

727 Smokin Gun of Kish's
826 Splinter of Kish's

MGM-3 Semi Finals

Good crowd tonight. Finally got a little excitement going.

Top 8 Semi Finals: I didn't get Tom's sheets so all I have are Cliffs.

Jeremi Kirkland on CL Clayton's Pet Salt River Jer'

What a great bucking bull. That big and to get in the air like that. Jeremi has a good seat going out through there--lost his rope--rode him three jumps with the tail. Probably rode him 7 seconds. Bull was a 23+ or a 24.

Bryan Richardson on 672 Prime Time Salt River Skip. Didn't have that wild Tarpon-like leap he just was a rank bucking bull. Bryan tried him. Pulled a groin. Bull was a 24+ or a 25-.

Jesse Bail on 238 Ligtning Strike of Westerns. Bull didn't kick and was pretty lungy. Cliff marked him a 23 in 3.7. Thats what I'da marked him.

Justin Andrade on A18 Alligator Salt River. Little white meanie turned back hard into Justin's hand--Left--and fell. Knocked Justin a little goofy (hard to tell on them Califunio boys) plus he has a bad wheel. Couldn't get on M16 of Hahpurs.

Josh O'Byrne on 26 Juice Monkey of Salt Rivers. Probably rode him 6... turning back into his hand. Cliff 23+ed him. I'da 22+ ed him but he is a really good bull.

Cody Hancock on 10 Freckles Salt River Jer'. Turned back away from Cody's hand and welled him. Was more of a tight circle. I supposed he was a 21+.

Vince Stanton on R410 T-Bug Diamond G. Cliff 25'ed him. A suppose it was around three seconds. Bucked hard but no turnback--at least hadn't yet. I couldn'ta 25'ed him but he was a 24-.

Jason Legler on 301 Cash Growney. Cliff marked it a 21 bull and a 22 ride. Into Jason's hand... pretty sluggish. Not sure how man total points he ended up being but it was the only qualified ride.

MGM-3 Top4 Finals.
Sudden Victory

These judges made a comeback tonight. They got some spread and placed things. Good job. I was hoping someone would get a reride so we could see 727 of Kish's again. Wolfman speed demon.

Cody Hancock on -75 MR. USA Diamond G. Another rematch. The Gilberts must sleep on sheets with pictures of Cody imprinted on them. Into Cody's hand... an outstanding bull ride. 95. Tom had it a 24 ride on a 23 point bull and Cliff went 24-24.

Vince Stanton on F7 Freak on a Leash. Another really nice bull ride. Went to the right--away from his hand he he rode him perfectly. 89.
Tom went 22-22 and Cliff marked it a 23 ride on a 22 bull.

Josh O'Byrne on 716 Cash Flow of Kish's. A little flat but Josh got to hanging. 82. Tom went with a 19 ride on a 21 bull and Cliff just did a 21-21.

Jason Legler on 610 High Voltage of Beutler and Son. Felt bad for Jason--he rode so good here. This bull got to goatin--just trying to jump out from under him. Little creep. Cliff marked the bull a 21 in 7.46 seconds.
He woulda only won third or fourth anyway.

MGM Best Bull Awards:

1. 672 Prime Time Salt River Skip

2. -75 MR. USA Diamond G

3. R410 T-Bug Diamond G

That was the official stock awards.

MY 4th place bull woulda been CL of Salt Rivers.

5th: 233 Wild Thing of Flying U

6. 727 Smokin Gun of Kish's.

7. M16 of Harpers. Probably woulda been higher if they woulda got him started.

8. 26 Juice Monkey of Salt Rivers.

9. 666 Shiver N Shake of Keslers. The judges liked their young bull 840 Evidence better.

10. 788 Classical T of Burns. Really good bull.

Typical PRCA deal--they were fining people again. Luke Kelley got it twice for holding onto the gate. One of his bulls was tied in. Reserve judge on the other side backside got him. Pro official on his side of the chutes didn't.

Think Jeremi got fined the first night for not being ready but then they fined Kish for not having Jeremi's bull flanked. Retards.

Maybe they can get a porta potty sponsor for the judging program. Something smells bad.
