The BIG Secret no longer a Secret
Big Changes at Ranch Headquarters
PRCA News Release: June 14, 2002
PRCA makes sweeping changes
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A slate of progressive proposals aimed
at upgrading
professional rodeo - including the creation of a bull riding tour - were
unanimously passed June 11 by the PRCA Board of Directors, and PRCA
event representatives.
"The PRCA Board of Directors, after a long and thorough
examination of
many issues, passed far-reaching initiatives that will position ProRodeo
in a positive light for the future," said Commissioner Stephen J.
Hatchell. A bull riding tour with a minimum of 12 dates in 2003, as well
as a traveling rodeo tour format for 2004, were among the changes.
In addition,, a nation-wide advisory board has been established to
provide leadership on global issues, and subcommittees were created from
existing board members to more specifically target industry needs. Other
changes to improve marketing efforts and sponsorships also were made.
Two landmark changes for rodeo participation will be changed, including
the contestant-popular initiative to reduce the number of rodeos that
will count toward Wrangler NFR qualification. A basic concept of limited
entries is in place, as well as changes to encourage entry-level
membership participation. Finally, a third Finale will be added to the
existing events at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and the Texas
Stampede Finale in Dallas.
