Bull Notes: Baton Rouge WCR
World Class Rodeo - Baton Rouge, LA

April 12-13 2002

Herd: Jerry's Kids

This was the first World Class Rodeo I've seen. $2000 added in each event. No BB or SB... not enough entries. Plenty of big-name timed event guys. Good judging. The bull riding paid 6 places. $65 fees. By my count, there were 54 entries, which would have made the pot $3510 + $2000 added = $5510. The total payout was $5040, and while that's not 100%, it's CONSIDERABLY better than most "rodeo associations". Try figuring up the payout at a amateur rodeo (and especially at amateur "association" bull ridings) sometime... you'll find that the contestants get REAMED more often than not.

Had some very capable bull riders entered, but for the most part, Uncle Jerry shut 'em down. Didn't ride many. This herd was mostly youngsters, and most of them like to SPIN. No real eliminators... nothing too scary. Most of Jerry's Kids are SMALL.

The ground was horrible and you could tell it in every event - but more so in the timed events... barrel racing especially. Didn't draw a good crowd, even with Robert Earl Keen in concert on Friday.

DONNIE'S PICKS OF THE LITTER
Since you're probably tired of hearing about bulls from a too-tall right handed guy who rode bad and had a lot of head injuries, I got the straight scoop from a short lefty with plenty of talent.... namely, eight-time World Champion Don Gay. He says these two problem children are the ones to watch.

M13 Smoking Gun -- L
Sat: Sam Farrell
Little bitty ACTION-PACKED black. Very BAD in the box... can't sit still... wants to jump out. They had to put a rope over his head. When he did finally get free, he CRANKED it to the left right in the latch. Jam-up young bull.

929 ?? -- R
Sat: Toby Schexnaydre
Little (real little) flat-horned charbray REALLY bucked right out of there - went about 2 and to the left... fast and lots of action. Toby took him about 6.

The rest of the Kids from Winnie

X2 ?? -- R
Fri: Bryant Pierce
Don't know that this wasn't a Bo Davis bull. Doesn't say on the draw sheet. Black white faced bull... three word summary: Yank, yank, YUCK. If you happen to run into Bo Davis's bulls somewhere, 40 -- a red Limousine -- is the one to have.

K9 Dog Face -- R
Fri: Spencer Slaughter --Sat: John Dunn
Hereford bull that was kind of nasty, but not as bad as the last time I saw him. Started left, stutter-stepped and came right. Saturday night w/ Dunn, he was just a good one... couple of rounds to the left and reversed it.

926 ?? -- R
Fri: Jason Beck
Little (real little) black horned bull out of a right D went into the corner and spun to the left. Pretty energetic little bull, but not much kick after he came around.

65 Last Chance -- L
Fri: Timmy Josey -- Sat: Matt Coffee
Black & white spot that went a couple and spun to the right. Very welly... fades away, doesn't do anything to help you crawl out of there. Same trip both nights here -- welled both guys.

1 Nacho Mama -- L
Fri: Eric Hall -- Sat: Randy Chapman
A young all brindle horned bull. Very solid both trips, right in the gate to the left. Pretty quick spinner.

76 Blue Jeans -- L
Fri: Lucky Ferri -- Sat: Donny Perry
Blue is the BIG BROTHER in this herd. Takes two of the KIDS to play see-saw with him. Friday he went straight away leaping, and Saturday he came around to the left right there -- still getting some air. Solid bull.

CT Baby Cowtown -- L
Fri: Jacob Tiner -- Sat: James White
Long bodied brindle that looks a lot like.. (you guessed it) 018 without the giant horns. Just a good solid bull that went both ways. Jacob was 79 on him Fri. Looks like TDW was 85 on him at Jackson.

F13 Hawaiian Noises -- R
Fri: Bill Spaletta -- Sat: Trent Amadee
Little calico bull that turned back to the left pretty flat Friday. Went a ways down the pen Sat. trying to find his spot, but finally came left & got Trent.

6K Firewater -- L
Fri: Ronnie Kitchens -- Sat: Jared Haymon
Gray brindle horned bull. Went almost to the middle of the pen Fri. before he came around left. Only went about three jumps and to the left Sat. Nice & showy. Ronnie was 80 on him Friday. They were only 72 on him at Jackson.

814 B.A. -- L
Fri: Talmadge Langley
Little brown white-faced bull. Really leaped out across the front of the chutes and ducked around to the right to get Talmadge.

81 Sand Storm -- L
Fri: Jason Rougeaux -- Sat: Colter Chapman
Little (real little) spotted bull. Friday, he turned back the the left and was real welly. Saturday he went a little ways before coming around... scooted... skeeted... finally turned back to the left. Bull acted like he couldn't hold the guy up. Hard to make it TO the corner on him.

802 ?? -- L
Fri: Troy Kibodeaux
Red horned bull -- RAN OFF.

83 Sneaky Weasel -- R
Fri: Willis Trosclair
Spotted bull -- went about 3 or 4 and to the right - just a good one. Willis was 79.

923 Stones Crying Out -- L
Fri: John Teran -- Sat: Jason McMann
Lil' tiny charbray. Short AND short bodied. This ginnin' little piglet is vertically challenged, so when they open the gate, he goes into a horizontal spinning frenzy to the left. Pretty fast.

801 Boobie Dance -- L
Fri: Rene Tate -- Sat: Doug Ash
Another vertically challenged Kid. Probably named right after Uncle Jerry got back from a Vegas trip. Probably the best draw and the best solid spinner in this bunch. In the latch to the left and VERY FAST. A lefty's dream come true. Boobie doesn't look like he's backing up, but he got both these guys down on his head in short order. He's mean too. Hooked his owner in the BUTT.

881 Sudden Impact -- L
Sat: Damien Bossett
Thin calico watussi-horned little squirt. Around the end of the gate to the right with lots of kick. One of the better bucking kids.

M21 ?? -- L
Sat: Dustin Moore
Pretty brown bull with horns -- just jumped & kicked in a big circle to the left. Not too hot. Dustin was 74 and got a RR option.

M3 ?? -- L
Sat: Scotty ?
Black & White spotted bull. Didn't want to come out and play... laid in the box... couldn't get him up. RR option. Must've been in hanging out in the pasture with Uncle Freckles.

907 ?? --
Sat: Dustin Darcy
Spunky little black with horns... came around to the right. Good bull.

88 Shotgun Willy -- R
Sat: Clint Burger
Little (most of Jerry's Kids are LITTLE) white bull. Lots of action and then spun to the right - hung in the air a little. Good bull - Clint was 87 to win this rodeo & 1663 Jerry Bucks. (only redeemable in Winnie, TX.)

-2 ?? -- L
Sat: Dwayne Durham
This is the fat red-headed kid of the bunch. A red BRAHMER with real swept-back brahmer horns and slanted eyes. White-faced though, so he's a mongrel like most of the Kids. He was pretty juicy for a fat brahmer... about two and to the right.

W2 ?? -- L
Sat: K.W. Stark
A black, white faced, nub horned FAT KID. Out of a left D, he came around the end of the gate to the right... not really spinning, but moving forward in a tight circle. Pretty snappy.

KT3 Kryptonite -- R
Sat: Terry Don West
Charbray bull - turned back close and to the left REALLY moved forward and drug his butt. No kick. Ran out from under TD right at the whistle. YUCK.

954 Livin' Proof -- R
Sat: Pancho Flores
Lil' Red RUNNER. RR option.

44 Mississippi Mud
Sat: Will Baugus
Dark brindle nub-horned bull. Really hits the ground hard... lots of kick... wants you down on his head. Started around to the right and got Will's heels.

M14 ?? -- L
Sat: A.J. Hull
White with red spots and some big bats. Scooted off down the pen trying to hook A.J. off his back. RR option. BAD KID.

124 ?? -- L
Sat: A.J. Hull (RR)
Black muley went to the let-out gate and spun to the left. Didn't weaken, but neither did A.J. Bull had him thrown off when he came around, but A.J. -- stuck into his hand pretty bad -- just scooted back to the middle and proceeded to give 124 a sound thrashing. 82.5 points to win 2nd.
