Bull Notes - Lafayette,
LA
Mid-Winter Fair Rodeo
Jan, 2002
Lafayette Sheets
Herd: Harper &
Morgan Rodeo
It's hard to believe Probullstats has been around for almost
four years, but time flies, and before you know it, it's once again time
for the Mid-Winter Fair Rodeo in Lafayette -- the traditional season opener
here in the Swamp Circuit.
By now most of you should have last season's guacamole cleaned
off your chaps, the rust knocked off your spurs and lots of money saved
up to pay fines with in 2002. You'll need it, cause it's time for the
winter run. High fees, big buildings, lots of driving, no need for suntan
lotion.
What's new for 2002? Auger is OUT and Harper & Harper
& Morgan & Pee-Wee & Wheezers are back IN. Much harder to
sneak into the rodeo now. James has armed guards at every gate. Motion
sensors, video surveillance, strip searches, guard dogs,... it's like
trying to break into the Pentagon. I had to go in through the ventilation
system.
Looks like they've got a mix of leftovers from last year,
and some promising looking young bulls coming on. as far as the
perfs I didn't get to see, I heard F6 didn't buck, they were 88 on
122 Red Wine (I think the bull was 21-21 and the ride 23-23). Judge Joe
Bob said there was a new bull - M-something.... maybe M16? I don't know...
but he said it was the best bull out in the earlier perfs.

Harper & Morgan Bulls -- The MIXED
BAG pen
X66 Dez -- Michael McCarty -- R
A piece of poo poo. Brindle Motley face nub horned bull that was originally
in the Auger herd. He sucked. Michael made a good ride... came all the
way from New Mexico. So much for the tourist dollar in Louisiana.
LL Smooch -- Jarrett Webb -- L
Another EX-Auger brindle, equipped with horns. This one is also a piece
of poo poo, but not as stinky as X66. Didn't get off the ground, turned
back but jumped out of it. Really not enough to place on.
B9 High Time -- Jesse Wright --
R
A warrior. This bull is probably older than the truck he rode in on. Beard
took him to the NFR way back in the twentieth century, where he bucked
David Fournier off in the last round to win the world. He's lost a step
since then, but not a big step. You can still place on him if you can
hang... he's pretty heavy. Sent Jesse on a full gainer over the front
shoulder and stepped on him -- looked like a broken leg.
K5 Spice Boy -- Buddy Davis (?)
-- R
A new bull -- don't know where he came from. Black, white face, nub horns.
Bad in the box, and when he got out, he turned back to the left and spun,
but was kind of queer looking. Didn't get to see enough of him.
J93 (no name) -- Jamie Langston
-- R
Another new bull. Good looking brindle with horns... probably not very
old. His neck wasn't filled out. He was probably the best draw in the
pen on sunday. Not as rank as G1, but classy -- leaped and turned back
to the left and got it on. Don't know if he will stay hooked, but he's
a good one to have.
45 Slam Jam -- Jim Buckner -- L
Big brindle horned bull. Last time I saw him, he just turned back right
there nice, but here he was a teeth-getter. Lots of rear and only kicked
every other jump. Bring your mouthpiece.
H6 Whammy -- Scott Sanders -- L
Many $$ won on this bull last year. He's a little black white faced bull
with short horns. usually turns back to the left and then reverses it
-- had the same trip here. Scott was coming off at the end, but was still
78 and placed.
H141 -- Trent Cormier -- R
I hadn't seen this bull before. Big red bull with horns. He circled to
the right and did get in the air a little bit, had some kick, but covered
a lot of ground. No rolls or nasty tricks. Would be a good bull if he
would stay close.
N9 Turbo -- Chance Miller -- L
About two jumps and fell down. No chance - I don't know that Chance took
the RR, or what the deal was.
G1 Gas Hog -- Bryan Richardson --
R
G1 showed signs of being spoiled last year, but he had a flashback in
Lafayette. Turned back to the right and stayed hooked. Lots of GAS. Bryan
had lots of gas too.... probably a case of Taco-Bellacitis like most Texans,
but it kept him moving the whole ride, and he stuck the HOG for 86 points.
Great ride.
F83 Doo Dad -- Bradley Fife -- L
Went to the let out gate and turned back to the left and jumped out of
it. Not very bucky.
201 Rewind -- Caleb Rankin -- L
Turned back to the left, and all but stopped. No bucky. Don't think Caleb
took the RR option.
117 Pat -- Mount out -- R
Piece of pew-pew. Loped around in a circle sort of. Ugly bull.
F8 Roan Rocket -- Mount out (?)
-- L
Big old blue-black motley faced bull with little cow horns. Kind of ugly.
He went to the left and whirled it right there... fast, but dragging his
butt. Very welly looking. Good enough to place on.I don't know who it
was that got on him. A Chris Osburne had him on the sheet, but I thought
it was a mount-out. Or maybe Chance Miller's RR? In any case, I didn't
know the guy -- but he could sure ride. He was HAMMERING on this bull
and got welled right at the whistle. F8 got lucky - he was taking a spur
bath from the get-go. If this guy was just mounting him out, I'd have
to say that he ought to enter the rodeo next time.
