Bull Notes - Montgomery, AL
Southeastern Livestock Exposition -- Winter Tour

March 16 & 17, 2002 (perfs 3,4, and 5)

Herd: Harper & Morgan <> Classic <> Silver Spurs

Montgomery Sheets

They moved the short round to Sunday afternoon this year, and attendance was way down. Last year, the Saturday night short round perf was close to a sellout - this year... I'd guess they sold far less than half the seats.

Here's how I saw the short round bulls:

Perf 3 -- March 16 -- 2PM

Harper & Morgan Bulls -- Perf 3, March 16 - 2PM

103 Swamp Rat -- Ron John Thoeming -- R
Leaping red muley fouled R.J. on the gate. RR

J93 (sometimes called Red Baron) -- Ron John Thoeming (RR) -- R
Brindle horned bull that is really a nice spinner - 19-21 pts around to the left & stayed hooked.

236 Sling Shot -- Cody Hancock -- R
Bull that's been around a good while. Just had a good day with Cody, who was 82 on him. Went a little ways before he spun.

09 Love Potion -- Tyler Fowler -- L
Little Charbray horned bull that just hopped around in front of the let-out gate. Tyler was 70 pts.

Silver Spurs Bulls

23 Calico Cat -- Phillip Hofer -- R
Shorthorn paint bull that was out about 3 and started to circle right. Threw Phillip off, but the Spurs guys said he was loaded on the wrong delivery. He didn't look too rank, but they marked this bull 22-23 on Thursday night when he threw Cory Melton off.

B5 Jumping Joe -- Darren Howard --
Big brown bull turned back to the left - just good.

52 Full Deck -- Bryan Richardson -- L
Seems like this was a black bull... I know Bryan spurred on him and made it back to the short go .... spun good to the left.

W13 Doomed -- Jeff Rupert -- L
Big fat blueish looking bull. Went straight away and started to circle left, but had plenty of buck. Jeff was 80.

25 Knocker -- Clint Solomon -- L
Black & White paint that was nasty... YUCK. Probably not worth a lot of points if you could get him rode.

L85 Snowman -- Robey Condra -- L
White bull that just spun good to the left. Seems like Robey was 76 and barely missed the cut for the short go.

Perf 4 -- March 16 -- 7:30 PM

Harper & Morgan Bulls

6 Red Whiskey -- Justin Ordiway -- L
A good sonofagun! One and cracked it back to the left... looked juicy. Red horned bull.

11 Jigger -- Buskin Wilson -- L
Mean red bull that started out bucking, but Buskin spanked him pretty hard and he cut out across the front of the chutes kicking at his belly. Not enough bull to make it back on.

16 Cousin It -- Ryan Brown -- R
Little flat horned bull that covered some ground before he came around. Has a pretty mean corner, and got Ryan. Hard to get by.

605 Spotted Fever -- Randall Hinote -- L
Spotted Watussi looking bull -- BIG horns. At Jackson, he was a nice spinner, but here he was better & faster -- to the left. Randall warmed him up, but too much G-force.

-1 Showtime -- Doug Vincent -- R
Outstanding paint bull. About 2 and to the left standing on his nose.... stayed hooked till right at the whistle and reversed it. Looks like he might want to get your feet behind you. Doug won the long round with 85.

9 Red Wasp -- Blue Rodriguez -- R
YUCK! Went about 3 and probably set a record for the LONG JUMP. Turned back... no kick... lunged... threw his head up.... YUCK-O. Getting around the corner is the trick on this one... he settles down and spins after that, but what a nasty corner...

98 Bubba -- Howdy Cloud -- L
This is a black nub-horned bull that was just a bull last year, but here he got it on right in the latch. One of the better draws in the long go. Howdy doesn't come down easily, but Bubba planted him at about 4.

H8 Try Me -- Travis Askew -- L
White bull - a tricky leaping spinner. Travis made a good ride on him, and got back to the short go. Bull is usually enough to place on at most of Harper's rodeos.

F6 Hard Copy -- Scott Sanders --
Very heavy and right in the gate. Bull has slowed some, but if anything it makes him harder to ride. Less rhythym than he had in his heyday.

Classic Pro Rodeo Bulls

P14 Marshall Dillon -- Jamie Langston -- L
One horned black & white spotted bull. Really nice -- one and spun to the left & stayed the whole 8. Jamie was 79 and made it back.

15 Slim Jim -- Mickey Owens -- L
Big Brindle that was around to the left and kept lunging forward... YUCK-O, Usually good the first time they buck him at a rodeo, and often has a nasty trip the second time. Mickey, however, is used to playing with nasty things and stuck him for about 68 pts.

Wrangler Round -- March 17 -- 2 PM

Harper & Morgan Bulls

99 Downtown Brown -- Luke Meeks -- L
Big Red spinner - got Luke's heels around the corner. A good bull to have.

73 Rampage II -- Jason Legler -- L
Big black bull... looked strong. Hits the ground hard. Jason had his hands full, but stuck him for 90 pts to win the short round.

G1 Copen Gas Hog -- Cody Hancock -- R
HOG decided to take a day off after having been pretty good all winter. Still bucked ok, and Cody was 81 to win 4th in the round, but just not enough bull to win 1st. There wasn't much to take his place in the short round pen, and Hog was last on the list.

M11 Turn the Page -- Travis Askew -- R
This is a new bull that has been good all winter. Here, he went about 3 and came to the left hard enough to yard-dart Travis. Solid bull. Moves forward around the corner.

55 White Soldier -- Doug Vincent -- L
Another new bull -- a ugly, white Watussi / roping steer cross. A little bitty bull with a mean disposition, big horns and a whole lotta heart. Really cranked it to the left... fast.

166 Strawberry Wine -- Jim Buckner -- L
What can you say about this bull? He's about 50 years old and still fits in this pen. Never has had enough kick to make him a favorite, but still enough bull to place high on. Won't stop.

M16 Smoke -- Jamie Langston -- R
Your everyday high performance--nitrous equipped--turbocharged super spinner. This black horned bull has a WICKED corner... cracks it back right in the gate to the right. He gets to max speed on the first jump. He does level out and has plenty of rhythym... he's rideable, but honky enough to eject any bull rider on any given day. Jamie took him 7.6 seconds to be probably 2 points over Legler. Bull reversed it about 6 and came to the left just as strong. The best draw in Harper's pen if you want to win 1st.

Silver Spurs Bulls

46 Bubba -- Jeremi Kirkland -- L
Big nubby horned black bull - out of the left D, he went left, took two long loping jumps, faked right and came around high and hard to the left to get Jeremi. Long bodied bull really has a lot of whip action in the turnback -- gets in the air and uses his body length.

L64 Baby Jake -- Jeff Rupert -- L
Spotted Watussi cross - big horns, hard bodied. skinned it to the left - plenty of action and and showed no signs of letting up. The word on Jake is that he's mean and will jump out of it if he sees a bullfighter or anybody else standing around.

L51 Cold Cold Heart -- Bryan Richardson -- L
This bull is the Devil. There's something unnatural about a 2000 lb critter that leaps around like an antelope on amphetamines. He's a big EEE. Triple E. All we know for sure is that he has a MOON SHOT first jump... straight up -- straight down. What comes after that is anybody's guess, but the word is that he keeps it up -- though no one can remember him being taken very far. He's the kind of bull that your mom worries that you will draw.

Classic Pro Rodeo Bulls

704 Fandango -- Blaine Whipp -- R
A solid-built red horned bull that came (I think) from H.D. Page. Spins like a top and drifts straight out towards the middle. Right in the gate and around and around till the whistle blows. Blaine was 87 to take 2nd in the short round and win the average.

581 Diamond Cut -- Chad Eubank -- R
Scotty's campaigner. Had a good trip - around to the left and circling tight rather than actually spinning. Plenty of buck - Chad was 86 to take 3rd in the short round.
