Here's the new contractor sleeping arrangements as I understand
it:
(Classic Pro Rodeo + Stace Smith Pro Rodeo) = (Butch + Sundance)
(Harper+Morgan+Auger) - (Morgan+Auger) = Wheezers
Therefore:
(Butch + Sundance + Wheezers)*Pete Carr = HARPER-MORGAN-CARR RODEO
CO.
Or something like that. Anyway, when you enter one of Harper's
old rodeos, you are likely to be drawing at a mix of Classic's,
Smith's, AND Harper's bulls. Not to mention 704
Fandango. CAN'T forget about THAT bull.
Not a bad deal for bull riders. Plus, you can still get wheezers.
And when the lights go out at those indoor deals, there are now
not just one, but three or four guys counting those glow-in-the-dark
light sticks. This is now probably the largest rodeo outfit anywhere.
Certainly they have more flying plastic toys than anyone.
Zinser was also at Jackson, lending some horse support. His #52
BB horse was the best bucking critter of any kind that I saw. I
only caught 2 perfs here - Saturday at 12 noon and at 4. By the
time the second perf was over, my flask was about dry and I had
to go. I knew I wasn't going to get to see 704 Fandango anyway.
he was out the night before. I heard he REALLY bucked.
Saturday, Feb 8 - 12pm perf - Harper Bulls
M103 Diamond Willie - James Oden -
L
A good spotted bull. Turned back to the left and looked pretty good
to ride. Nothing spectacular.
707 Boomerang - Tice Hopkins - L
Small red & white paint bull that was a good spinner - to the
left.
H6 Whammy - Robbie Russell - L - 82
pts.
This black white faced bull usually spins both ways, but here, he
wouldn't stay hooked for more than one round. Back and forth - plenty
of snap. Bull looks hard to track when he reverses it.
99 Downtown Brown - Brad Jones - L
- 79 pts.
SWEEEEET potato. Both ways.
333 Cherry Grove - Matt Austin - 70
pts.
Yuk-O. Really, really, REALLY crappy. Went down the pen kicking
at his belly.
152 Land Shark - Kent Hirdes - 83
pts.
Wild little brahmer that really leaps and hangs - doesn't kick high,
but has a lot of action. Carries his head high. Looked like one
of the best draws in this perf.
M11 Turn the Page - Blue Rodriguez
- R
Moved forward, circled right... kinda nasty. Looked like he wasn't
going to do much but be hard to ride.
221 Dark Town - Talmadge Langley -
R
Nasty. Down the front of the bucking chutes bouncing off the panels.
YUK. Talmadge rode him. I didn't catch the score, but it wasn't
very high.
73 Dippin' Rampage - Mark Lopes -
L
Yee-Haw - the best bucker I saw at this rodeo. Really gets moving
for a great big old bull. RANK. I might add here, as a disclaimer....
that I didn't get to see 704 Fandango.
Saturday, Feb 8 - 12pm perf - Classic Bulls
008 Boot Scoot - Stewart Cole - R
Spun to the left - pretty good, but obviously not as good as...
well you-know-who.
J2 Tate - Logan Knibbe - R - 82 pts.
Good bull. Around to the Right (I think) moved forward. Good solid
bull.
99 Hub Cap - Bandy Murphy - R - 81
pts.
Neat-o little black white faced bull. Never spun... just leaped
and leaped some more. Good little bull that has been around for
a while.
-3 Coffee Break - Nick Birch - 72
pts.
Not much... dinky little paint bull that kicked at his belly.
0 Warlord - Jeff Rupert - L
Cute little red muley that really got it on to the left. Electric.
I see where they were 64 on this one at Lafayette... Jeff would've
been 84 here.
34 Smokin - JP McGarry -
Stunk up the place... YUK YUK YUK-O. Actually, he was worse than
that.
983 Joe Millionare - Brett Hanrahan
Fast, flat and welly looking. Paint bull.
221 Wizard - Linc Cummings
Lumbering clunker. turned back and jumped out of it. Not too hot
looking.
068 Shakedown - mounted out -
Little black maniac. Very quick. Like a flying squirrel on Vivarin.
He went a ways out there before he turned back, but it didn't take
him very long to get there.
