Final Go Round Results

Any contestant who makes a qualified ride in the Semi Final go round advances to the Final go round. In most instances, there will be less than fifteen qualified rides in the Semifinals. If less than fifteen qualified rides, the contestants with the longest completed ride times (to the 100th) will move in to the unfilled positions. To accommodate the rare occurrence when we might have more than fifteen contestants ride their bulls in the Semifinal go round we have pre drawn competition positions for eighteen bulls. Whatever contestant qualifies into that position receives the bull at that pre drawn position. If there are not more than fifteen contestants in the Final Go Round, the 16th bull on the following list becomes the first reride animal, the 17th the second reride, and the 18th bull becomes the third reride. If it ever happened that there were more than eighteen contestants qualifying for a final go round, an extra bull (s) would be added to the finals pen and the additional contestant(s) would draw at the entire pen of bulls. If the additional contestant then drew a bull that some other contestant already had, the additional contestant would take that bull away from the other contestant who would then compete on the bull that was added to the finals pen of bulls. This may seem confusing but this is a standard rodeo drawing procedure referred to as “Draw Away From”.

8th place contestant: Cory Melton - 92 pts - 1st in final round
Bull: 916 Indian Blanket. Cervi Championship. 1400 lb. White bull with black spots. Will be 6 this spring. Can spin either way and always reverses the direction at some point during the eight seconds. 2001 and 2002 NFR. Cody Hancock—85—2002 NFR. Philip Elkins—88—Waco, TX.

6th place contestant: Robert Bowers - 88 pts - 2nd in final round
Bull: 56 Diamonds Shadow. Vernon Guidry. 1100 lbs. Black banana horned (horns point downward and are shaped like bananas. Little bull with a real big heart. A fast spinner that has a chance to buck you off if he spins in the direction opposite your riding hand. Riders with long legs have problems keeping him underneath them. 2001 NFR. Had two good performances at the Summer Tour Finals in Dallas. Won one—lost one but won the most important match in the top 4 round.

10th place contestant: Blue Stone - 87 pts - 3rd in final round
Bull: 6K Firewater. Salt River Rodeo/Jerry Nelson. 1871 lbs. (been eating at Subway for two weeks). Almost a grey colored brindle. The PRCA bull riders haven’t seen much of this UNRIDDEN bull but he’s had plenty of exposure to other top bull riders. Turns back (spins) to the left but may circle towards the out gate before spins. Overrated.

11th place contestant: Terry Don West - 86 pts - 4th in final round
Bull: 00 Double Trouble. Salt River Rodeo/Jerry Nelson. 1800 lbs. White bull with black spots. Has been spinning to the right but his degree of difficulty is high. He’s a long bodied bull with forward movement in the spin which tends to run guys back into what Gary Leffew terms the POWER ZONE—the place where the bull’s strength, weight advantage, and centrifugal forces are insurmountable. This wouldn’t be one you’d want to draw with $25,000 on the line particularly if you are right handed.

2nd place contestant: B.J. Schumacher - 7.76 sec.
Bull: 50 Smokeless Hammertime. Bad Company Rodeo/Mack Altizer. Big black bull with horns. 8 year old. A pattern bucker that always turns back (left), gives everyone a fair shot in the chute yet has been ridden 1 out of last 60 outs. Has an unparelled resume’…. 3rd ranked bull for 2002 Bull of Year. 3rd ranked bull at 2002 NFR. 2000-2001-2002 Texas Circuit Bull of the Year. Bucked off Cody Hancock at Pendleton and Vince Stanton and Beau Hill at the 2002 NFR.

5th place contestant: Rusty Patrick - 7.71 sec.
Bull: 88 Wild Fire. Bad Company Rodeo/Mack Altizer. Paint bull with horns. 5 year-old. Bad Company says… “Young superstar to the circuit. Unridden.”

7th place contestant: Colby Yates - 6.56 Sec
Bull: 731 Bo Dippin. Sammy Andrews. 1500 lbs. Yellow bull. Calf out of Bodacious. Kicks really hard out of there then spins. Used to prefer to spin to the left but lately is liking the right. In his youth, Bodip used to kick so high that he kicked bystanders off the backside of the chute. More settled now and after being sentenced to a mandatory liability insurance seminar--BO has become one of the cowboy’s favorites. NFR-2000-2001-2002. Voted best bull at SummerTour Finals in Dallas last two years--$10,000 cash prize each time. Zack Brown won the first go round at NFR in 2002—the “A TEAM” pen of bulls—88 points. Jessie Bail was 94 on him at the Summer Tour Finals in Dallas.

13th place contestant: Tyler Fowler - 5.82 sec.
Bull: T18 Locomotion. Sammy Andrews. 1700 lbs. Be 5 in March. Starting Kindergarten. A youngster but one of Sammy’s best. Will probably spin to the right. Blue Stone won the 6th go round on him at the 2002 NFR—88 points--picking on a kid. Big Brother 731 Bo Dippin sez he’ll beat-up Blue the next time he draws him.

3rd place contestant: Kyle Joslin - 3.95 sec.
Bull: 122 Slim Sammy Andrews. 1380 lbs. (really 1400 but he’s self conscious). White bull with spots. Will be four years old in March. One of the few bulls to ever make the NFR as a three year-old. Spins to the left. Gary Burt was 85 on Slim in Albuquerque. Robey Condra was 89 on him at the 2002 NFR.

9th place contestant: Howdy Cloud - 3.52 sec.
Bull: 889 Boy Friend. Cervi Championship. 1450 lbs. Black motley face (has big freckles) bull with flat horns. Turns 6 this year. 2001 NFR. Will spin but has some Chuck Berry Reelin’ and a Rockin’ moves before he does. Tries to loosen a guy up then turn back whenever he feels he has gained an advantage. Ridden once in 2002—Casey Baize at Casper. Bucked off Bail and McFadden in 2002.

12th place contestant: Luke Kelly - 3.25 sec.
Bull: 847 Johnny Walker Red. Cervi Championship. 1500 lbs. when full. Roan bull with horns. Will turn 6 this year. Usually a spinner without much kick. Deceptive because he can be slower at times and rear (RARE) a little which tends to drop guys in the well (the inside of the spin—OUCH). 2001 and 2002 NFR.
Jesse Bail—88—won short go at Dodge City. Cody Hancock—87—Houston short go. Cory McFadden—87—Albuquerque. Bucked off Vince Stanton going into his hand at the 2002 NFR.

14th place contestant: Jerry Shepherd - 3.22 sec.
Bull: 101 Snuff King. Sammy Andrews. 1700 lbs. Be 5 in April. Yellow bull with white face. Can spin either way. 32 outs—5 rides last year. Can be rank or just good. Real strong right out of the gate then levels out once he turns back and spins to the right. Myron Duarte was 87 points on him in the 1st go round of the 2002 NFR. Blue Stone was 87 on him in the 9th go round at the NFR.

1st place contestant: Zack Brown - 2.56 sec.
Bull: L9 Chiseled in Stone. Salt River Rodeo/Jerry Nelson. Brindle, bald-faced (white faced) bull. Turns back and spins in the gate. UNRIDDEN so far.

15th place contestant: Blue Bryant - 1.91 Sec
Bull: 801 Boobie Dance. Salt River/Jerry Nelson. 1300 lbs. Red bull with white spots. Can spin either way but when he goes—he’s gone. This wild child could be cast in a Fast and Furious sequel. Lots of T & A in those movies so even his name would fit. This would be considered a really good draw but you better have your fast forward button pushed down. As erratic in his behavior as a crank addict when he’s cranked—Boobie can sometimes become disorientated and have an off day (day off). For example--Rusty Patrick was 81 on him at Albuquerque then Philip Elkins was 89 on this Salsa King the next time he was out there.

4th place contestant: Josh O'Byrne - 1.62 sec.
Bull: 712C Rattler. Salt River Rodeo/Jerry Nelson. Oh oh… aother unridden bull. Actually a spotted bull that spins to the left. A new bull to the PRCA circuit has is well known in other televised bull riding circles.
