2000 NFR            TENTH PERFORMANCE PREVIEW

Note:  This is a 11:45 A.M.  performance so this is all you get.

Pen of Bulls:   The   A TEAM II

Drawn for there to be quite a few good rides.  Several re matches. Had trouble coming up with 15 bulls because some members of this team didn’t buck too hot their first time out.  I’d bet that they’d be a lot better this time but couldn’t be sure.

Thought about mixing in some of the harder to ride bulls instead of putting them out on Friday night.   Finally said screw it and pretty much danced with the bulls that brung us—even though some of them are ugly.

Cody Hancock                     K77  River Dance                           Big Bend

Brought up from Triple A last night.  Traveled by bus (a big one).  Needed something that you could count on.   This big red always bucks.  He can be good or he can be hard to ride.  Went a ways and welled Potter on the turn back.   Think it was in the 6th performance.   Cody is 1st in the ave… he and Philip have both ridden 7 bulls so far.   599

Tyler Fowler                           080  Red Dog                                 Beutler/Gaylord

All I’ve heard about this bull is that he is outstanding.  Personally I haven’t had much luck with him staying hooked—both here and the Mesquite Cup deal.  Still bucked hard both times.  Would like to have replaced him but couldn’t find a ranker bull without getting into the E’s.   Tyler is 8th in the average. Has ridden 4.    322

Philip Elkins                           K66  Rapid Fire                              Big Bend

A former bull of the year… a great bull.  Has had off days here in the past but was outstanding.  Highest marked bull out that night.  Philip is 2nd in the ave.   Has ridden 7.    575

Lee Akin                                 906  Young Gun                                          Pinz

This Mega Bucks calf was the rankest bull out the first run through the bulls. He was out the third performance.  Can’t remember who had him but he blew up right there and looked impossible to ride.   BUT…. Vince Stanton was 88 on him at the Columbia River Circuit finals.   3rd in ave.   Has ridden 5.   430

Jesse Bail                               66  King Kong                              Rafter H  (Hall)

A rematch.  Jesse rode the KONG for I’m thinking 96 points to win Sikeston. He’s not as good indoors but Jesse is.   Philip won 3rd on him the first time out here.  Jesse is 4th in the ave.     Has ridden 5.     414

Rob Bell                                      301   Cash                                           Growney/Kish

I’m a little rummier than usual at the moment.  I’m thinking Cash goes into Rob’s hand.  If so--he’ll ride.  If not—I’m not sure anyone has ridden him going away from their hand before.   Rob is 6th in the average.    Has ridden 4.   338

Robey Condra                        MT  Mighty Tricky   Broken Arrow/Thomas Taylor

A supposedly unridden bull even though I’d said he had been.  Guess not.  Yet. Robey is 5th in the average.    Has ridden 5.     413

Dan Wolfe                                      46   Zandy                                           Andrews

A THREE match.   Dan rode him at Albuquerque… so Zandy got even by falling on him at the Mesquite Cup deal.  Messed up Dan’s leg.   Goes into Wolfe’s hand— he just isn’t enough bull anymore to buck him off.   9th in ave.  Ridden 3.  256

Gregory Potter                     G1   Gas Hog             Harper/Morgan/Auger

This black bull kicjked more than I’d seen him the first time out.  Looked rank to me.   If you can get around the corner—he rides good.  Vince Stanton won a round on him here last year.   This might be the go round.   Greg is 7th in the ave.  Has ridden 4.   335

Shane Drury                                       007  Gyro                            Beard

This ugly ducking Longhorn bull is not impossible to get by—but he’s a handful. Shane’s riding hand/wrist was sore BEFORE last night—so you can imagine what it must feel like today.  Just been unlucky this week.  It happens.

Kagan Sirett                           R8  Copenhagen Kish                Bar T  (Kerby)

Don’t know that this bull has been ridden since Bud’s owned him.   Bucked hard the first time out with Robie.    This bull was rideable when Kish owned him.   Can’t imagine him being better than that now.

Danell Tipton                               10  Freckles                            Guidry/Nelson

Wasn’t too crazy about using him again because he likes to lay down in the chutes sometimes but he’s a better bull than the rerides.   If I put him IN the rerides then it would be a bad deal if you had to get on him for your second bull.   He’s a good bull really good bull if you can get out of the chute in good shape.  He doesn’t give you any chance to catch up.

Hope Danell is healthy enough to feel like he can ride him.   If not there is no since getting on.  If he can’t get on then Freckles becomes the first reride.   Tough ten days for a good guy.

Fred Boettcher                                101  Border Patrol                         Flying 5

Judge Joe Bob Locke said that Fred rode this bull at the Dodge National Circuit Finals in 1999.  Don’t recall it but he probably did.  This is the 2000 Bucking Bull of the Year.  Hancock won the first round on him.  92 big ones.   Like to see Fred make that victory lap.

Corey Check                          780  Diamonds Ghost              Guidry

Didn’t think this bull had his best day the first time out but he’s a trying little guy—just like the CRUISER.  Should be good watching.

Josh O’Byrne                                     77  Yellow Jacket                         Flying 5

Another former bucking bull of the year.  Got Greg in the first round.  Normally Josh would be excited about having him—I just don’t know how much gas he has left in his tank.   Some guys have had a tough ten days… Josh has got that beat by quite a bit.

The Rerides:  Not necessarily in order.

105      Super Star                 Guidry/Nelson

Had a sorry—hard to ride day with Tyler the first perf.

410      Storm Tracker            Andrews

Thought about putting him in in place of Freckles or 080 but the judges only 21’ed him.  DUH.    Think he was out in the 6th performance.

X4            Explosive Binion            Cervi Brothers

Lee took him laying down.   Little guy took off after Lee stuck it on him.
