2000 NFR

SECOND PERFORMANCE RESULTS

Pen:   The Big E’s

Rode 4 of 15

  • 1.           Hancock                              90
  • 2.           Bell                                      83
  • 3/4.        Condra                                 82
  • 3/4.         Bail                                      82

The thing you have to remember is that there were some big time buckers in this pen. You can be riding really tough and get dusted quick.   There have been years when they only rode 2.

Judges Order:  Knowles    Overstreet    Davis    Horton

Cody Hancock           88  Color Me Bad        Double J   90    23 22- 21+ 22

Almost mind over matter.... Like the judges I didn’t particularly care for the way the bull performed but was really impressed with Hancocks grit.   Basic Bull Riding 101.... no matter what this sucker does he is NOT going to buck me off.    Jade told me I screwed up… this was a nice spinner.

Rob Bell            105  Wedgehead      Beutler/Gaylord       83    20-21-21-19

Went into Rob’s hand... thought he was going to propeller him out of there but that’s pretty tough to do--going into his hand.   Bull gave it up at the end.   If it’da been a guy running the other hand down Wedge woulda got him quick and the judges woulda 22-23’ed him.

Robey Condra     -08    Riptide              Beutler/Gaylord    82   21-19-20-20

Didn’t look that impressive but get on that bull.... it’s real scary because you know he has the ability to set you up and turn your headlights out.   Like having a ticking bomb right under your boy toys.

Jesse Bail        19   Bedrock                    Kesler              82   21-20-21-20

Duane Kesler was mad because this bull didn’t have his best day but I think that was pretty much him. Watching the tape... he’da yanked alot of guys down during the first 3-4 seconds.  Jesse rode the front end and stayed down.

Philip Elkins        G21  Dodge Durango     Mesquite        25-24-24-24  (3?)

Test the judges.... Must be on Ecstasy.  Geez... the bull bucked but not as good as he can. I wouldn’t say the judges are nuts but I saw a pack of squirrels trying to drag them out of the arena.

Gregory Potter     CL  Clayton’s Pet     Guidry/Nelson     23-23-23-24   (5-6?)

Bull was going straight away from me... but I assume he was being a bad boy.  Looked like he mighta got Greg’s rope.

Kagan Sirett       K78    Unforgiven        Big Bend         23-24-23-23  2.2

Bull doesn’t usually turn back without a bull fighter to start him.  May have surprised Kagan. Run that sucker back in.

Tyler Fowler         78      Tuff E Nuff      Guidry/Nelson     24-23-22-23  2.2

Too biga disparity of weight classes.   Scales were fixed at the weigh in.   Jerked him down. I SWEAR he’s a PET… just doesn’t buck like one.

Shane Drury          A13     Trick or Treat       Western      22-23-22-22   7.8

I was hoping he made it.   Shane countered every thing the old bull tried to stick on him. Bull scooted out of it right at the end.   Bulls quitin on him have cost this guy $20,000 + in just two days.   You can tell his confidence is growing.... he’s going to be a factor.

Dan Wolfe              70    Malpractice  Guidry                23-21-21-23   2.1

I don’t know whether he was going to stay but to me this was the rankest bull out... he cracked um. Really rank.  Rockin Wolfe may have to change his E Mail Address to ROCKET Wolfe.

Fred Boettcher        142    Voo Doo          Bailey            22-22-22-22   3.4

Voo Doo is a doo doo.... little creep.... pretty hard to stay on.    Purchased at a SALE BARN no doubt.

Josh O’Bryne          +100   Playmate         Western         22-22-22-22  3.3

Looks like MATE will be able to work at Sheplers after his rodeo days are over.  Shaping hats. He put the GABBY HAYES crease on Josh’s.   Just another day in Paradise.

Cory Check      99   Nine-O               Guidry/Nelson            22-22-22-20   5.1

Horton missed this bull.... he is a handful.... keeps moving away from a guy and he’s stuck on fast forward.

Lee Akin            112   Red Alert                   Walls                  22-20-22-22   ?

No time written down but Lee rodeo him 6-7.   Bull really blows alot but wads up and doesn’t kick much.   Run him back in.

Danell Tipton         76    Red Crusher         Rosser             RR  foul

Screwed up deal.... to me it looked like the bull was looking the wrong way when Danell called for him... the gate cracked.... bull hesitated....the gatemen tried to hold it closed... couldn’t. Bull really cracked um and Danell’s right foot was back near the flank.... and he was off his rope 2 feet.   Let go trying to declare himself.    Super slingshot.   Hit the ground.   Pretty much knocked him out.    Some people thought the bull just got his rope.   That wasn’t the problem.

Danell Tipton     426   White Caps        Barnes      21-20-22-21  3.4

Looked like the Brahmer was going to buck.  He got Danell’s rope but I can’t see how he’da done it.   I’m thinking Danell was still dazed.   I looked into his eyes and there was a VACANCY sign in the window.    They coulda had him get on the bull to start the following performance’s bull riding and then get on his other one last.   Although not an idea situation it probably still mighta been better than trying to ride when you think you’re still in Tulsa.

This wreck brings up an important issue to bull riders… DECLARING yourself.   It’s dangerous… For Example:  a bull nearly knocks you off on the gate but turns back into your hand… if you let go… you’re meat for the bovine blender.   Go on with the deal and usually you can’t catch back up. In PBR if you get fouled at anytime during the ride, you have an option coming.   Sure there’s room for abuse but it’s still better than screwing every one equally.   I tried that in college… nearly wiped out an entire sorority.
