2000 NFR     FIFTH PERFORMANCE RESULTS

Pen:   Almost Famous

Supposed to be the top end of the really good bulls--pen right below the A Team.   Several of them didn’t buck at all and even more had different days than usual.

Rode 9-15

  • 1           Condra                    88                           $13,133.46
  • 2/3.       Drury                       85                           $ 9,108.69
  • 2/3        Elkins                       85                           $ 9,106.69
  • 4/5        Bell                          84                           $ 4,448.43
  • 4/5        Akin                        84                           $ 4,448.43
  • 6           Hancock                  82                           $ 1,059.15
  • 6           Bail                          82                           $ 1,059.15
  • -           Wolfe                       81
  • -           Check                      73

Judges Order:    Overtsreet     Knowles             Davis         Horton

Robey Condra                       601  El Smacko                    Big Bend                               88  22-21-22-22

Yellow bull has his best day and Robey stuck it on him.  Pulled him down right at the end... Bull fighters saved him.   Actually Baumgardner did one of his patented 7 inch leaps and lit on Robey.  El Smacko was laughing so hard he left them and hooked Smetts.

Shane Drury                        141  Sandman     Andrews                                85 20-20-20-22

This is a really good bull that didn’t buck his best.  Shane would have ridden him anyway but he’da won first .

Philip Elkins                        514  Real Deal                         Growney/Kish            85   22-21-22-22

This bull was a little flat but real fast.  They hit his ride some but for me--I’da marked him higher.  Philip made a couple of really good moves and tried his butt off.

Rob Bell                                56   Tadpole                          Franklin                                85  20-21-20-20

This isn’t the same bull I’ve seen here or on TV.  Went way out before he turned back. Rode him good.     I’m wondering if they might switch deliveries on him if he we buck him again.

Lee Akin                               521   Windmill                     Beutler                  82  21-20-21-20

I’d never seen this bull not get it right in the gate before.  I figured that Lee might win the round. Wasn’t very smooth to ride and went out too far.

Jesse Bail                                             70   Black Cat                      Western                81 20-20-21-20

This bull really bucked at the PBR finals and every where Dan took him this year.  Didn’t buck much.  This is one of the bulls that all the ownership griping was about.... Personally I really don’t care who owns them as long as they are made available on a top priority basis to the PRCA bull riders.  You can’t just offer them when you don’t have a bull riding to go to.  You have a good Rodeo--they better be present.   Otherwise--they can still come here--just not to THIS finals. The ownership deal is unenforceable--always has been-- always will be.

They ask the event reps to enforce it.   Right…. you haul around dinks for years…and you want us to be the BORDER PATROL and stop the good bulls from coming to rodeos.   You bet.   Count on it. Sure thing.   Right on.   You can count on me.   I’m with you brother.   DUH.

Dan Wolfe                             58           Little Wasp                           Guidry                   81  19-19-21-19

This baby bull was outstanding at Pasedina.... and really bucked at the PBR finals.  Here he was pathetic.   Chased his tail... and it dang sure wasn’t going very fast either.

Cory Check                          -0            Naepalm                                Rumford                73  17-17-18-18

Ita been a reride option for me.  Trying to be humanitarian we try to help out contractors--even though most don’t qualify in that species category.   We take a little bull to Mesquite... bucked good but had a body like Don Knots.  So we take this bull out of the Prairie Circuit Finals... supposed to have bucked.   But then I’m standing on the back of the chutes after this fine farm animal hopped around like a gut shot pheasant and a rival contractor says’  “I shoulda called you... this bull didn’t buck at the circuit finals... they did have one that bucked though”

Well CRAP.... it is hard to keep all these bulls straight when the thirty bulls at any given rodeo show up in groups of 1-3.  Some in stock trailers... some in U Hauls.... some in one horse slants....etc.   At least 20 different brands... 15 different flank men.  They appear out of nowhere at one rodeo... you look at the next week’s rodeo sheets and they are gone again.  I’m glad that they try to give the bull riders the best bulls they can find--it’s just hard too keep track of them.   Some bulls have switched herds three or four times in a season.  Change their names to protect the innocent, I guess.

Greg Potter          K417    After Shock                            Big Bend                               21-20-22-21    4.7

This bull figured to move up to the A Team.... ha ha... maybe the Z Team.   Should change his name to “After PERF”.   Supposed to be RIGHT THERE... instead looked like a Texan with bad gas--PHZWUT ed out across there... made a square turn.  .  You know what I think?  The time I saw him at the Cow Palace a bull fighter stepped out and caught him.  Can’t do that here.  Thanks for bending us over, boys.

Tyler Fowler                         231    Mad Max                     Stace Smith                          22-21-21-20  6.7

I thought this was a terrible day for this bull.  Went too far... too danged slow.  Tyler had to wait so long that he sat down and rolled off.   A secret agent warned me about this bull--I was just too stupid to listen.  We’ll probably buck him again here but only because so many good bulls have been sorry.

Note:  For all you Internet whizzes that didn’t understand what happened to Tyler last night.... they had the Wrangler fighting bulls loaded ahead of the reride bulls.  They were trying to make Tyler put his rope on a fighting bull because they didn’t know the bulls were loaded out of order.

Cody Hancock                      551  Fireball                         Growney/Kish                     82  19-21-20-19

I almost substituted another one of their bulls for this bull--should’ve.  He’d been in lots of PBR short rounds and been outstanding.  didn’t buck much with Ross Coleman at the PBR Finals.  Think he was 85.5 but in real points it was more like a  75.  PBR scores are calculated using Dog Years.  Kinda hard to stay on--just never found a spot.

Kagan Sirett                         4  Grey Cat           Bailey                    23-22-22-22     5.5

Bucked good.... didn’t think Kagan ever got tapped but was making a good effort. Sometimes he’ll look like he’s getting beat but still make it.  Didn’t tonight.

Fred Boettcher                   50   Hammer Time         Bad Company                      23-21-23-23    7.98

Except for the $13,000 Fred has to feel pretty good about this effort.  Bull really bucked and Boettcher gave it all he had.

Darnell Tipton                     3F   Spin Doctor                   Andrews                21-20-21-22   6.5

Kind of scattered around like an Armadillo on exlax  then turned back into Danell’s hand.  A Mini wreck.

Josh O’Byrne                         +2  Smokin Joe                 Bailey                    24-21-23-23  6.1

Okay... time to test Overstreet for hallucinogens.  24?   But on the other hand Knowles must have been on depressants in order to slap a 21 on this bull.    Bull did have a juicy day and I thought was going to make it.   The bull usually levels out but if anything he got stronger.

Best Bull Buckle:   +2       Smokin Joe          Bailey

Bull Scores:

  • +2           Smokin Joe                          91
  • 50           Hammer Time                      90

  • 601         El Smacko                           87
  • 514         Real Deal                             87
  • 231         Mad Max                             84
  • 3F           Spin Doctor                         84
  • K417      After Shock                         84
  • 141         Sandman                              82
  • 521         Wind Mill                             82
  • 56           Tadpole                               81
  • 70           Black Cat Moon                  81
  • 551         Fireball                                 79
  • 58           Little Wasp                          78
  • -0            Naepalm                              70

For your education:   If you ever look in a stock contractor’s dictionary the definition of  “might have a hole in him”…. is  “he STOPPED”.
