Herd:
Harper-Auger's 2nd and 3rd stringers
Notes:
This was not a good pen of bulls to
draw at. Several bulls that have been down the road and know how to get guys
on the ground. A small rodeo that didn't draw the top guys, so they don't
bring the top bulls. You runners WILL see these bulls at their bigger rodeos
- as filler. Some of them you may have already seen and were hoping they
were dead and gone. The kind of bulls that hold up to the miles, and never
get any nicer. You probably won't see any of these in Vegas, but you'll darn
sure see 'em a lot on the way there. For the judges, this riding was a
NO-BRAINER.
Bulls:
15 Mick
Couple of years ago, this black
muley was a bundle of DY-NO-MITE. Whoofy. He disappeared for a while,
and looks like he's lost a little weight and a LOT of buck. Here, he was as
worthless as any black muley ever has been. Scattered off down the front of
the chutes for 16-17 pts. Rode him both nights, and didn't break 70. They
used to buck him left hand, and there's nothing but right hand deliveries at
Columbia. Sorry as he was, the guy that had him Saturday night won ALL the
day money and the guy that had him friday - placed.
B9 High Time
B9 brushes his teeth with diesel
smoke and probably wakes up in a different town every day. Went to the NFR
several years ago when he belonged to Beard. Harper got him in 98 I think.
Still pretty heavy and still an eliminator type. The nice thing about B9 is
that he doesn't cover much ground. Lots of up and down. Still gets his big
brindle bull butt up in the air, and is worth a check almost anywhere you
can get him rode. They either won or placed high at Montgomery, AL on him
this year. NOT one you jump off of and think "wow that was
fun." Will still try to crack your skull on the slide gate too.
646 Motley
Outlaw
This is the first time I'd seen
this black motley faced bull, though Auger hauled him last year. Was a good
one to have here, though you'd be just out of the money at a bigger rodeo.
Kinda kept his head down and did a lot of bucking in the same spot. Threw
his guy off when he really came around. Looked pretty neat to have,
but a little out of line. Kicked at his belly too much to throw the top guys
off.
147 Lightning
They were saying this bull has NFR
stuff, but he didn't show much here. Looks like a genuine Texas brindle with
horns. REALLY likes to hook. Looked to be headed down the front of the
bucking chutes when he threw his guy. May have been the wrong delivery for
him. Did I mention he REALLY liked to hook? Mean. Don't remember if he had a
RC on him, but I bet he did. That or a big ol' W.
X66 Dez
Another bull that's been around and
never been much fun. Back and forth and roll and walk on his front end....
Big bull too. Yuck. BUT - lots of $$ has been won on this bull at Augers
rodeos. Throw him in Harper's good pen, and he's not enough bull to place
on.
B11 Red Beans
What a SWEET potato this one is.
All brindle - about 1600-1700 lbs - turn back to the left and back up a
little. Has more rhythm than Kid Rock. AND - the judges love him. 20-21
everywhere he goes. Too nice for the NFR and really out of place in this
herd of yankers. They won this rodeo on him. Not hard to predict.
4X General
Electric
Charbray muley that's usually just
a bull. Won't normally place on him at any larger rodeo, though he
threw his guy in .05 seconds here. Might've been a record buck off time.
F15 Wipeout
Everybody knows this one. Here he
turned back to the right - right in the latch. Probably the delivery. Still
pretty juicy, but not what he was. Also not as hard to ride. Got a pretty
handy guy on the ground here though.
A1 Wimpy
E-Yucky painted brahmer. I'd never
seen him before, and he didn't look to have any redeeming qualities. Big
Brahmer head. Big horns too. Too much brahmer.
37 Egore
This lanky brindle's been around a
while. Not real consistent, but can be a good draw. Money's been won on him
at a lot of Augers rodeos. Didn't look like fun here - moved forward a LOT.
This bull has been to a lot of PRO rodeos, and he has a brother that has
NEVER been to a pro rodeo, but is twice as good a bull. Two PRCA contractors
passed on him, and they still buck him at a lot of amateur rodeos. Great
bull - lots of heart. Too bad nobody wanted him.
