How Good is Good Enough?

After studying bull stats for many years now, I've been less than satisfied about one particular aspect of measuring bull performance. Using the average marking measured against all bulls doesn't always reveal the value that is inherent in some bulls.
The original idea behind Probullstats was to provide bull riders with information about bulls that would help them calculate their odds of winning or breaking even at any particular event and on whatever bull they have drawn there.
By simply measuring the career average of bulls, we show that there are relatively few bulls that are in the elite class. But, as a bull rider, you don't necessarily need one of the elite bulls to win big. What you really need is the best bull in the go round you are competing in. And that bull can sometimes be ranked far below the top bulls in the world.
So to show more accurately what a bull is worth, I've compiled a new stat called Winning Percentage. Winning percentage can be read like a batting average (although there are few bulls that will reach .300), and what it measures is how often a bull is the best bull in a round.
The formula for WP is the number of round winning outs divided by the number of rounds a bull has appeared in. A bull can have more than one round winning out at an event if he is out more than once in a round (e.g. two day events with a long/short round, or multi-perf one round events).
This stat says a lot about what kind of company a bull travels with. If you have a mediocre bull in a great herd, he's not a good draw. But if you have a mediocre bull in a weak herd, he's a great draw. And that's really what you want to know.... how likely is it that you have the best bull there. Winning percentage shows that.
WP can be found on each bull's profile - mid page on the right. It's only compiled for bulls that have 5+ outs.
