World Champs: 1959 to Present Dec 20, 06 5:48 pm  By: Slade
Here's everything you ever wanted to know about Bull Riding World Champions in the present era.

I compiled a list of every PRCA World Champ from 1959 through 2006 (1959 being the inaugural year of the NFR), and every PBR World Champ from 1994 thru 2006. Here's what I found:

In the PBR and the PRCA combined, 61 World Championships have been awarded since 1959. 42 Different riders have won at least one World Championship.

Of the 10 different riders have won multiple World Championships, only 3 have won more than 2: Don Gay (8), Tuff Hedeman (4), and Adriano Moraes (3). ** Jim Shoulders and Harry Tompkins each had several before 1959.

Riders with 2 World Championships: Ronnie Rossen, Larry Mahan, Jim Sharp, Terry Don West, Blue Stone, Ty Murray, and Chris Shivers.

Only one guy has won the PRCA and the PBR World Championship (in different years): Tuff Hedeman won the PBR in 1995, and the PRCA in 1986, 1989, and 1991.

Only Two different guys have ever won World Championships back-to back (in consecutive years): Blue Stone (2001 and 2002 PRCA) and Don Gay (about every year in the 70's)

Of the 42 World Champions, 23 rode left handed, and 19 rode right handed. Of the 10 guys who have won multiple World Championships, 7 lefties, and 3 righties.

Of the 61 World Championships awarded, 39 were awarded to left handers, and 22 to right handers.

On 7 occasions (best I can tell...), a World Championship has been awarded to a rider from outside the United States: Adriano Moraes (3x Brazil), Cody Snyder(Canada), Daryl Mills (Canada), Troy Dunn (Australia), and Ednei Caminhas (Brazil).

Anyone who can add to this wealth of trivia, feel free to do so in the comments.
