NFR 2001

Fourth Performance
Monday - December 9, 2001

Pen of Bulls:     The Transvestites

These boy-girls can play both ways.  Definitely some HARD KNOCKERS in this group—bigger than in any show in town.  But then… there are some real DICKS-tectives.   Definitely smart@sses like Jim Rockford.

These bulls are the kind that will kick your butt everyday at recess until you're man enough to kick THEIRS. Linebackers.... WWF Wrestlers..... THUGS… BULLIES….no matter what-- they are gonna get the last “YO MOMMA” in.    Won’t be a lot of rides.   On these kind you either ante or you don’t.

Lee Akin ---- X4  Explosive Binion               Cervi

1. $101,142.12 -- NFR: $11,486.60 -- 172 on 2--5/6/7 th in average

Brahmer lays in the chute sometimes. They've had trouble keeping him sound. Not as honky as some in this pen.  Electric.  Good one to have for a three-legged Brahmer that lays in the chute.

Vince Stanton            521 Windmill            Beutler @ Son

2. $96,877.50 -- NFR: $0 -- 0-3

A rematch from the MGM.  Windmill is in this pen because he bucks in there whenever you nod.  Loosens guys up and then turns back. Lots of up and down in this bull. Windmill won the first match but that night Vince fought him so long in the chute that his hand went to sleep.  Should've re pulled.   This is a really good draw if you get around the corner in good shape but Vince is gonna have to stay down.

Rob Bell                 233 Wild Thing                   Rosser

3. $96,648.33 -- NFR: $5,670.60 -- 65 on 1--9th

This black fireplug with banana horns is electric. Probably left then back to the right and the odds favor the bull against anyone.  He is a DICK with Hard Knockers.   Probably caught the “D” part from a flanker.

Mike Moore                 604 No Can Do                  Kish

4. $95,612.21 -- NFR: $16,430.20 -- 178 on 2----3rd

Bad little Puerto Rican. Can spin or just pull knives as fast as a Samurai on speed. Not impossible but not probable.  Put this bull, a drunk Okie, and a coked-up Puerto Rican in a closet and NO CAN will be the last one standing.   Too bad Mike isn’t a Texan—he could FART the others to death.  Texans are notorious elevator farters.   That’s how the military trains their troops.  Take them to Dallas and put them on Elevators.

Cody Hancock           VT Helter Skelter              Andrews

5. $90,311.21 -- NFR: $2,181.00 -- 164 on 2---8th

Hereford that is pretty tricky. Always bucks hard but sometimes goes a ways before he licks um and that gives a guy a better chance. Think he faked right then went to the left at the PBR finals.  Lee was 84 on him at Waco but he can buck harder. Good draw in this pen.   He walks a little and kicks high.   You either stay down or you’re going down.

Jesse Bail          69 Buff Daddy            Burns

6. $89,800.85 -- NFR: $10,250.70 -- 172 on 2---5/6/7th

Can't remember who this bull bucked off in Dallas but he bucked hard and moved forward in it.  Usually not that juicy plus I don't think Hal Burns is here to flank him.   Couldn’t figure out why they sent this bull in as a LEFT when he was out of a right in Dallas.  It’s a bull owners (or hauler’s in some cases) responsibility to check the danged list when they get here to make sure the deliveries are correct.  Once a pen is drawn they cannot change it even if everyone agrees.   Little things like not (ticked off) sending a flank man when the bull riders just dumped $4,000 a head in your laps or not showing up in flank… … or sending in the wrong delivery—or not telling Darrell well in advance where a bull bucks his best---or being semi sober---crap like that ticks me off.   These guys have rodeo’d all frickin year and are trying to win something.

FACES….

This morning they had the Exceptional Rodeo.  19th year.   I was really proud of all the people: riding eventers, timed eventers, barrel racers, announcers, barrel men, bull fighters, rodeo queens, staff, civilians…all those people who took time to get up and get out to try to make some little kid’s lives better.  Maybe the best hour or so of their entire lives.

At times… looking at those faces… those precious innocent faces—I wanted to cry.

You hold one of those kids and you never want to let them go—just want to protect them—but you can’t.   All you do is try to have some fun with them… to treat them like a normal kid as much as possible and hopefully create a memory—a memory that perhaps will provide them glimpses at joy in the lost and lonely world they must live in.

The most important thing that will happen in this town this week…  happened in the NFR rodeo arena this morning.   World Championships… victories… losses… money….and all that other stuff won’t be as important as touching a few innocent lives and putting a smile on some precious faces.

This morning I saw rodeo people at their very best and I love them for it.

Cory McFadden                  G64 Johnny Rotten                        Mesquite

7. $88,510.36 -- NFR: $25,626.75 -- 177 on 2---4th

Jason McClain was 90 something on this wild little creep at Dallas then he scattered his next time out in the top 4.   Either trip --Cory will ride another one.

Blue Stone                551 Fireball                 Kish

8. $88,076.98 -- NFR: $25,626.75 -- 183 on 2--2nd

Electricity... wild.... pretty good draw because he can have some 110 volt days when he's rideable.  Blue won't let go for sure. Thinking this bull didn't buck great his last trip at the NFR.   A whistle will get a guy a check in this pen.

The Exceptional Rodeo kid that Flint Rasputin had this morning looked like he was really a thinker.  Probably thinking… “Crap… I drew a dummy.” OR   “Dang… and I thought I had problems.”

Philip Elkins          666 Shiver N Shake           Kesler

9. $83,681.59 -- NFR: $16,430.20 -- 254 on 3---1st

Yes…. this bull has the Kesler hot temper.  The NFR could save thousands of dollars on their openings by just putting one of the K MEN in the middle of the arena and tick them off.  Sparks.  Then Smoke.  Then BOOOOM.  Then Fireworks. Just trying to save the NFR some money.  The K Men have been good this year.

This bull has some Matador in his background.  Hard to get out on but a good one to have in this pen.   He's gonna spin it just depends how far he goes.   Jesse made a good ride on him in Dallas but it looked like the horse flank was nearly pulled off.   Might win the round.

Myron Duarte        U62 Back in Black               Franklin

10. $81,163.54 -- NFR: $11,486.60 -- 172 on 2---5/6/7th

Had two secret agents tell me that BACK IN BLACK should've won the best bull at the recent Canadian Finals.  Then Kagan told me that BACK coulda fit in the Big E's here.   Guess we'll have to see who's right.   These judges mark the heck out of difficulty so in that regard this is a good draw IF you can ride him.

Fred Boettcher      F29 West Coast Tornado              Kesler

11. $64,941.83 -- NFR: $0 -- 0-3

Based on this bull's Big E performance in Dallas I figured he could watch the NFR on the satellite dish in his barn at home.  But I guess he bucked at the Canadian Finals.   Fred needs to get one under his belt.  Not sure this is a good one to have but you gotta ride what you draw.  It's in the rules I think.

Josh O'Byrne     T32 Ice Patch          Three Hills

12. $64,390.29 -- NFR: $0 -- 0-3

Someone won a round on this cute little dude last year. He's a handful... not just a spinner. He's gonna try to buck your butt off.

Jason McClain          32 Smokeless              Andrews

13. $62,348.96 -- NFR: $0 -- 0-3

Although he hasn't made the whistle yet this no elk shootin sonofabuck is riding great.   Smokeless is a pattern bucker which makes him a pretty good draw to place on in this pen.   Was “just a bull” at Dallas but can be outstanding.   He’ll be out standing in the parking lot if he doesn’t buck good tonight.  Along with his owner.

If you see Donna Vold staring at Steve Gilbert’s butt, it’s not what you think.  Geez I hope not.   She’s trying to figure out the delivery on her bulls.   She usually checks- in with me before the Livestock selection deadline.  Sutton is usually the only one that is sneaky enough to get through but my wife hears Donna’s voice on the recorder and thinks she’s a Norwegian from MINNE….. SOOOOTA.   Go rent the FARGO movie.  Donna sounds just like MARGE.   Yaaah.. Yaaah… pass the strudel.

Greg Whitlow

14. $62,129.62

Jason Legler            G621 Purgatory                         Mesquite

15. $58,183.35 -- NFR: $0 -- 0-3

Jim Monte Hensen Nose Gay swears this little bull is just a gassy spinner but in Dallas he looked tough to get around the corner on.  Jason needs to get a notch on his tomahawk but this is a difficult scalp to take.

Kagan Sirett            805 Ice Water                 Flying U

16. $58,183.35 -- NFR: $0 -- 0-3

I can't remember the last time this bull was ridden.   Been a good while.   Comes to us from Flying U… ngrateful.

Reride Bulls: Not necessarily in order:

K84    DR. Performance             Big Bend
He's just a baby but he was a bucking little SOB at the Cow Palace.

22   Super Freak             Harper Morgan
A Wild Child.   Be a good one to have and maybe win the go round

48   Charlie Brown                Vickie Vold   (the NICE sister)
Was super rank one time out at Cheyenne and really bucked in Kansas City. Had a couple of off days outdoors between those two times.   Is here because I figured this arena is about the same size as most Honky Tonk arenas.
