*Notes:
There were lot of great bulls and riders here, but the most interesting thing to me was Comet's Gold vs. Mark Lopes in round 2.
Prior to this event, Comet's Gold was one of the highest marked bulls around that had never appeared at a BFTS event. He has often been a top 5 bull at rodeos and has been marked 45 points on numerous occasions.
Sure enough, in his first BFTS out in round 2, he was really good, but his markings here (42.75) illustrate the difference between being really good in a pen full of everyday bulls and being really good in a pen full of really good bulls. It's harder to stand out.
A long time ago, bulls were either NFR caliber, or not. Comet's Gold most certainly is - he was selected for the NFR in 2008 and 2009. But, nowadays most every BFTS event is full of "NFR caliber" bulls, and to gain attention, they need to be the kind of bull that could be in the best 2 or 3 bulls at the NFR. People tell me all the time that bulls get marked a lot higher outside the PBR, and as far as I can tell, this does hold true about the "NFR caliber" type bulls and the difference is about half a point per side.
