PBR: PBR Canada Event
Jun 22, 2013

Notes:
Couple of observations on the short round here. Aaron Roy actually got an 82.5 point score on 923 Aurora, with the RR option because the bull hipped himself. This is kind of a gray area in judging because for example, Roy was 79 in the long go and didn't get an option. His first bull was weaker than the one he did get a RR on.

Also, Roy took the RR and ended up tenth in the event. Had he kept the score he would have been second. He would have needed 92 points to take first, and his RR bull didn't score high enough to give him that. Chances are no bull in the short go could have. So in effect he traded a sure second for a great chance at second, and a long shot at first. If he was the gunner in the short round he likely didn't know only one other guy would ride, and that might have affected his decision, but this situation illustrates why it's often a good idea to keep a score in a short round rather than take the RR - especially if your score is over 80. In today's climate where it's reasonable to expect very few rides on short round caliber bulls, any score in a short round is way better than zero.
