PRCA: PRCA Rodeo
Jun 3, 2010

Notes:
Looks line most of the Barnes / MJM bull herd now consists of Utah born and bred bulls.

When riders enter a rodeo, they really hope to draw a bull they can be upwards of 80 points on. Otherwise, this gets to be an expensive and pointless hobby. This rodeo did not feature a lot of bulls of that caliber, although the herd was not much better or worse than it has been in the past 7 years.

Cherokee is part of a mini-run that happens around the first of June - Fort Smith, Licking, and Cherokee, and Hugo. Typically Licking and Cherokee have the weakest bull herds compared to other rodeos in the general area.

However, these riders did the right thing here and at Licking, which is ride a lot of bulls. They rode 48% here, and 57% at Licking. You see a lot of rodeos out west where the bull herd is sub-standard, but the guys still can't stay on anything. This makes the contractors feel they ought to keep hauling sub-standard bulls. If you want better herds in the draw where they aren't then ride every weak one that they draw for you, look disgusted, and go on to the next one. Some contractors will eventually feel it's necessary to upgrade. Some may not, but if you fall off everything, they sure aren't going to change a thing.
